Before. The owners of this Spanish revival style home in Washington, DC wanted to replace their front lawn with native plants. After (day of installation). The new entry garden is inspired by Mediterranean landscape styles and planted with trees, shrubs and perennials native to the mid-Atlantic. Gravel edging protects plants from cars and foot traffic, defines borders, and evokes rocky Mediterranean settings. New boulders create a focal-point composition with a legacy Japanese maple. A new stepping stone path eases circulation from the driveway to the front entrance. Plants were selected for their fine textures, mounding or spiking habits and predominantly purple and yellow blossoms. A "planted" sculpture provides an additional focal point.
